Hello, I'm Max!

I'm a research scientist at IBM Research working in the Foundations of Learning team. Previously, I completed my Ph.D. in computer science at Northwestern University under the supervision of Ken Forbus. While at Northwestern, I studied how to design explainable question-answering systems that could be applied to reasoning-intensive domains with very little in the way of training data.

Broadly speaking, I am interested in problems at the intersection of natural language and symbolic reasoning. My recent work has focused on development of neuro-symbolic methods for semantic parsing (i.e., the translation of natural language into logical forms).
